How's Business Going?
“So, how’s business going?”
Has your heart ever stopped when someone asked you that? Even if it comes from a well-intentioned friend, things can get...awkward.
Preston Lee, the founder of Millo, recently wrote an article where he compared asking an entrepreneur that question to asking someone, “So, how is your salary coming along?”
No one wants to lie, but no one wants to sound like a failure, either. And running a business is complicated. Some days (or weeks) are great, while others are challenging, and possibly less profitable than you were hoping. So...what should you say?
My tip: Focus on what you love about your business, instead of how your business is “going.”

“I love how I’m getting to work with passionate small business owners and helping them find the right words to connect with customers.”
Or maybe
“I am really enjoying my interactions on social media lately. I like knowing that what I'm doing is helping people.”
Don’t feel that your business has to be reduced to just dollars and cents. Success is a feeling, not a metric. Your business is in progress--and that’s as it should be.
So, what do you love about your business?
